Course Overview

This program is intended as an overview to explain the major hazard areas associated with noise and to increase awareness of noise issues in the workplace.

‘Noise Induced Hearing Loss’ strongly reinforces the fact that once hearing is damaged, it cannot be repaired. However the program also reinforces that Noise Induced Hearing Loss is preventable.

Today, more than 22 million Americans are exposed to hazardous noise on and off the job. An effective hearing conservation program is designed to prevent hearing loss.

Simply being exposed to hazardous noise levels can result in hearing loss, by damaging the hair cells directly connected to nerve endings in the inner ear. However, the extent of this damage and severity of hearing loss depend on the amount of noise to which you are exposed and the duration of exposure time.

Depending on the amount, noise can cause hearing loss that is temporary or permanent.

This course will also discuss the safety regulations that establish a range of noise levels and exposure durations indicating acceptable occupational levels of exposure.

This course will also introduce you to the types of hearing protectors, including their benefits and proper use, and address your responsibilities in supporting your employer's hearing conservation program.
